PROJECT 2: Found It!!!

Once again another saturday comes by and its time for another visit to the half cut shops. This time, we were still looking for the Toyota 4A-GE AE86 Levin Rear Wheel Drive engine or if possible half cut. Toyota has a way of classifying their engines according to their generation, and model. Taking the 4A-GE for example,
  • 4A-GE(*info from wikipedia)
4 - 4th generation engine in the A engine family
A - The Engine Family it is in
G - Wide-angle dual camshaft
E - Electronically Fuel Injected

AND, we finally found it in this half cut shop at Klang. Tip top condition! :) We actually found this half cut last Saturday but they couldn't get the engine to start. So we bargained with them and they told us Rm4500 for the whole thing plus starting the engine. Well this time, they started it for us and it sounded awesome! Just what I've been hunting for! However, we came in a BMW 6 series so when they saw us, they jacked up the price and didn't wanna let go of the engine at anything less than RM5000, but in the end we agreed and got it. Plus they threw in the rear axle and the springs and a very nice GAB shock absorbers. not sure whether they'll fit but was a good deal!

After we were done with the engine, me and my dad's friend went rim shopping in Klang for his BMW 6 series, and apparently there were a lot of rims that were either made in China or Taiwan, so it was so hard just to find a forged rim or a original rim that would go well with his BMW. Finally, he found a shop that had a set that he liked, think the shop's name was something hooi. Very nice rims over there and very efficient service. He settled for some cool 19inch BBS rims. So this saturday ended up well! happy day today. budget left for the car: RM7025.00

*Never take a BMW 6 series to a half cut shop, if not they'll jack up the price for your parts! lesson learned. And, Klang has a lot of nice used car parts for sale! :)

Candy Store!

This weekend was just what i wanted! Saturday afternoon my dad, a close friend of ours and I went to the 'candy store'. This wasn't any ordinary candy store though, this was my type of candy store! We were in the Klang area and found all these big big shops and for me it was my first time, and i was just blown away from what I just experienced.

We were looking performance parts for the Toyota Corolla KE-35 Hardtop Coupe, and well still no luck but it was a very nice way for me to spend my afternoon :)

We did find this vintage steering wheel for the Toyota S800. Guess how much it cost us, RM80. Expensive you would think for an old steering wheel, well you got it all wrong. We checked out the website for this brand of steering wheel, Nardi Torino and it cost between USD300-400. Loving the half cut shops, gonna look around more this coming few weeks to continue my hunt for parts :)

What happens when i get a standard perodua myvi

happened to me last year after spm biology paper finished. On the way to chill with my friends, was driving and the road was wet. entered a S corner and lost the back end. drifted into a tree and the front left went into the drain :P

first thing that came to my mind was, 'what would my mom say'. i look back at this and LOL! ;) funniest thing was, my friends saw the car in the drain and joked about it saying it was me but they didnt mean it, then the next night we all went out for dinner and i was late, told them i was at the police station making the report and they still joked about it. when i got to the dinner, i told them it was me and everyone collapsed in laughter! haha, good times....
the impact actually activated the airbag. but its weird, the airbags are no larger than the steering wheel, so if i hadn't buckled up, i would've been dead. SEAT BELTS SAVES LIVES, NOT AIRBAGS!
Total cost of damaged: RM11,000.00 :O thank god, insurance to the rescue! and it isnt even my car, its my uncle's car and he wasnt back from UK so he asked me to drive it to make sure the car was in good condition. well, is this in good condition? haha!

PROJECT 2: Toyota Corolla KE-35

Hi all, well its time to start a new project, abit different from the previous project. This time i got my hands on a 1977 Toyota Corolla KE-35 hardtop coupe.  2 doors, 5 seater. its got a 1.3 engine in it, single carburetor and it only weighs 700-800kg. Me and my dad again found this car for sale in Raub, Pahang thanks to mudah.my and well the price was reasonable and we liked the shape of the car. We went to Raub, Pahang to see the owner of this car and to check the condition( rust, accidents, etc.) of the car before buying. Well, when we got there, the car was well kept and immediately we bought it!

This is my second car under my name :) the previous owner of this car had placed in a nice stereo system and 13inch sport rims on it. BUT there's alot of work to be done on this car. since the resale value on this car isnt as much as the Toyota S800, me and my dad have decided to modify the crap out of it.

What I wanna do to the car: there's alot i wanna do i dont think i can mention all of it. One of the major things that need to be fix would be the body work. apparently, the front of the body work has some cracks in it causing the body to flex alot until its causing the rest of the body work to crack as well. Now, we're looking for a shop that can fix up the crack and also stiffen and preserve the frame and body of the car. but what really surprises me most about this car is that the previous owner put in that stereo system! it just needs some nicer speakers and it'll sound good!

well, what i have in mind now is just a general outline of what i wanna do with the car; respray the car, add seatbelts in it(if not my friends would be scared to sit in it while im driving) :P change the dashboard to look like a race car's dash board(the aluminium type of dash), put in some good meter gauges, change the suspension to Koni shocks, brake system also needs to be changed but havent decided what brakes to use, change the drive shaft because it is really giving me alot of problems already, change the rear axle and, this is the best part, change the engine to a toyota AE86 Levin 4-AGE engine which would kick about 120 horse(stock).  considering the car is lighter than a myvi, with this engine in it, it could really run...

Well, im gonna start work on this car probably by the end of the week and the estimated date of finish would be in october :P patience is the key in doing up old cars. this is a on going project so there will be lots of photos of the car soon! gonna take pictures if the before and post them up and then once its done, the pictures of the after will be up :)

hopefully once the car is done, i'll have the chance to test this car in sepang! :)

PROJECT 1: Toyota S800

Well, this is my first car. Toyota S800, a car made by Toyota in the 1960s. My dad bought it 20 odd years ago and now he has given it to me and registered the car under my name :) the car is beautiful car and was the first sports car Toyota has built. Toyota produced only a handful of them during that time and well, finding parts for this car is the hardest part. Me and my dad are still keeping it in good condition and the parts we have to get for this car is just costing us alot of $! we get the original parts from some guy in the U.S. I still remember when my dad had the car and when i was probably 5 or 6 years old, he used to take me around the neighborhood on it. surprisingly, these are some of the cherished memories i some how could remember after all these years :P

At one point of time, we lost the registration card so that meant that we couldnt renew the rotax and insurance. after a long time of searching, we finally found the first owner of the car and went to visit him in setapak, thankfully he was still alive. after visiting him 4 times,  he finally made the decision to help us transfer the name to mine. with the help from our JPJ runners, we managed to transfer the name really fast and got through the puspakom inspection in half a day. So now, thanks to my uncle who started this classic car club, we take the car on road trips on sundays most of the time. thats all for now, more photos to come! :)

Hi!

hi everyone! my name is Ryan Ritchie and I'm 18 years old. I am in Malaysia, and i love racing, cars and bikes. my whole life basically revolves around cars and motorsports. When i was 10, my dad introduced me to the world of motorsports and i have no regrets being involved in motorsports. i've raced all over asia and some parts of the world. I was also in the PETRONAS Formula Xperience Programme for a year then went into Formula BMW Pacific in 2010. I created this blog to feature my classic cars, yes hardly u hear a 18 year old collecting classic cars and normally you would hear 18 year olds getting fairly new cars. well, my dad is my inspiration. he gets me involved in everything or well nearly everything that he does. most of it is racing and cars.
